Private and Public Fusion Energy – the opportunities to collaborate.

Speakers

  • The Rt Hon. The Lord Willetts

Former Minister of State for Universities and Science and a member of the UK Research and Innovation Board

  • Ian Taylor MBE

Former Minister for Science, Technology and Space and Chair of the UKI2S Fund.

  • Followed by a panel discussion to explore ways in which the private and publicly funded programmes can work more closely together – to ultimately bring fusion power closer.

Delivering on the huge promise of abundant, clean and safe electricity from fusion energy is in many ways the holy grail of the energy industry. This huge promise has led to private companies setting up to investigate innovative fusion experiments and technologies, in addition to the publicly funded work undertaken by UKAEA and the university sector as part of a wider European and international programme.

This session aims to explore ways in which collaboration between private and public fusion research programmes can be increased, discussing the barriers to collaboration, proposing potential solutions and ensuring the UK fusion community takes advantage of the huge opportunities.
