The International Tokamak Experimental Reactor (ITER) project in Cadarache, France is well on the way to starting operation in 2025, recently announcing the start of the machine assembly phase. The success of ITER is important for fusion research here in the UK not least as experiments on the European JET device (operated by UKAEA at Culham Science Centre) this year, are vital for preparing ITER operation. Also, UK industry have won major ITER contracts in recent years, with the promise of more to come now that the UK have agreed a close association on Euratom.
Come along to the third meeting of the Fusion Energy APPG to learn more about ITER – the world’s most important scientific experiment; how UK industry are benefitting and how that will benefit the burgeoning fusion industry in the UK.
