This group aims to be a forum for discussing all aspects of this potentially world-changing energy technology.
Fusion promises to be a safe, low carbon and sustainable part of our future energy supply.
Fusion is getting closer to commercialisation and is now starting to enter the delivery era. The UK is genuinely world-leading in this hugely exciting, transformative technology:
- The UK Atomic Energy Authority’s fusion research programme at Culham operates the world’s largest magnetic fusion experiment, JET, for European partners and has a thriving domestic research and technology programme;
- The UK’s academic community have significant expertise, with around 25 universities involved in fusion R&D;
- Privately funded fusion research is thriving in the UK – with Tokamak Energy and First Light Fusion leading the way, and a growing supply chain – nurtured by the UK Fusion Cluster.
This group aims to inform parliamentarians, industry and academia of the latest advances in fusion energy, how fusion R&D can benefit the UK, and how this research can best be aligned with the UK’s industrial and research policy.
